Floating Offshore Wind
Island and coastal communities often abundant wind resources that can be harnessed for renewable energy. When land is limited by competing land use priorities, the ocean offers a viable alternative for responsible renewable energy development. Progression Energy uses the best commercialized floating technology to site projects in deep waters which are far enough from shore to alleviate many use conflicts. For example, offshore of Oahu we are working with technology partner Principle Power, Inc. to generate more energy with faster wind speeds to provide a stable and reliable source of renewable energy. .
Principle Power’s Windfloat® technology involves a semi-submersible floating foundation that has been used successfully in the oil and gas industry for more than 30 years and can maintain full production amidst 45-foot waves. Offshore wind turbines have been in use for more than 25 years around the world and the number of offshore floating wind projects is increasing.
